EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Round at Arena UK

The EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Rounds continued last weekend at the Arena UK. This class proved popular with one hundred and twenty-three eligible combinations coming forward for the class held on Saturday 26th July 2014.

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Championship final at the Horse of the Year Show and each competitor was hoping to take one of these tickets as their own.

Seventeen of the starters produced the two clear rounds needed to make it through into the final jump off and in that jump off, five combinations went on to deliver a treble clear. This meant that the clock was crucial in deciding the order of results and the allocation of the qualifications.

Victory in this second round was taken by 32 year-old Clare Shepherd from Middleton, Manchester on her own and Angela Nuttall’s El Diablo Grande, a 6 year-old dark bay gelding. The combination put in three foot perfect rounds to gain their treble clear in a time of 44.19 seconds.

Second place was taken by 16 year-old Graham Babes from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire and he was on board his father George’s 6 year-old grey mare Calvade VD Pikkerie Z. Graham also produced three immaculate rounds from his ride and stopped the clock in 44.68 seconds.

The first two horse and rider combinations, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show. The first five, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival. Horses and riders that jump a treble clear also qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival.
