Dodson & Horrell 0.85m & 0.95m National Amateur Second Rounds at Maelor Equestrian Centre

Eighty-four hopefuls contested the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds last Saturday at Maelor Equestrian Centre in Hope, Flintshire and each and every competitor was focused on qualifying for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which will take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 18th – 22nd November.

With just twelve qualification spots up for grabs in each of the two second rounds, spectators were treated to day of competitive jumping. 

Dodson & Horrell 0.85m National Amateur Second Round 

Forty-seven combinations came forward to contest this second round and it was fifteen year-old Emily Cumming from Mold, Clwyd who triumphed in a thrilling thirty-one horse jump off. 

Twelve double clears were delivered overall and Emily produced the fastest of these to take victory on board her mother Katherine’s 16 year-old bay mare Senannie. Their blistering round saw them finish in 27.58 seconds.

Second place was taken by Jill Higson from Ruthin, Denbighshire and she rode her own 17 year-old black mare Reustrade. This combination laid their double clear down in 28.15 seconds.

Rebecca Hughes from Holywell, Clwyd took third after she produced a double clear in 28.76 seconds on board her own 16 year-old chestnut mare Capana.

Dodson & Horrell 0.95m National Amateur Second Round

This second round attracted thirty-seven starters and from the initial field of starters, twenty made it through to the jump off. Once again, twelve combinations went on to produce a double clear.

Sophie Corney from Scunthorpe, South Humberside enjoyed victory in this second round on board her own 19 year-old bay mare Ocean Breeze II after narrowly beating her nearest rival by just 0.3 of a second. Sophie and Ocean Breeze II clocked up their double clear in 34.66 seconds.

Sharon Taylor from Dudley in the West Midlands finished in second place on her own 12 year-old bay gelding Kiers Rumour. They secured their top two position with a double clear in 34.96 seconds.

Third place went to Emma Raw Rees from Telford, Shropshire with Katherine Raw Rees’ 14 year-old bay mare Peggys Rumour. This pairing produced their second foot perfect round in 35.98 seconds.
