EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Round at Bicton Arena

The EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Round at Bicton Arena was held on Sunday 15th June 2014 and with sixty-five starters coming forward to compete; it promised to be a hotly contested class.

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show and all of the competitors were hoping to take one of these tickets as their own.

Of the sixty-five starters, twelve combinations went on to produce two clear rounds to make it through into the final jump off. In the jump off itself, just two combinations went on to secure a third clear and in doing so, they took the two direct qualifying spots.

The win came from the combination drawn fourth to go in the jump off. Danny Dunne (26) from Salisbury, Wiltshire took victory on board his mother Gerry’s a 7 year-old chestnut gelding Criss Cross. A solid jump off performance from this combination saw them secure a treble clear in a time of 43.56 seconds.

Commenting on his win, Danny said “I was really pleased with Criss Cross’ performance, he settled as the class went on and his jumping just got better and better. Both his dam and sire have won classes at Horse of the Year Show before, so I am interested to see what the future holds for him.”

Second place was taken by 24 year-old Daniel Moseley from South Hykeham, Lincoln on Sally Roe’s 7 year-old dark bay gelding Winner of Picobello Z. This combination secured their treble clear in a time of 44.26 seconds.

The first two horse and rider combinations, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show. The first five, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival. Horses and riders that jump a treble clear also qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival.
