Tuesday 30 August 2011

The Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival 2011 kicked off on Sunday with the first championship classes of the show held yesterday in the indoor Championship arena.
It was the Pink Equine Stepping Stone Championship which led the way with qualified pony riders from across the country competing for the Championship title.
The 128cm ponies jumped first and it was eight year old Katie Clarke from Chorley in Lancashire who took the first Championship title of this years show. Katie was making her debut at the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival riding her father Warren’s grey mare Show Me Heaven. Jumping a clear in a time of 32.12 seconds proved unbeatable for this combination.
In second place was Matilda Deakin also aged eight from Tyne and Wear. Matilda was riding her mother Felicity’s eight year old grey mare Pie in the Sky V who jumped clear in a time of 33.13 seconds.
Third place and jumping clear in a time of 33.79 seconds was eleven year old Alexander Stormonth who had travelled down from Lanark in Scotland for this competition. Alexander was riding the fifteen year old bay gelding Springcroft Calypso owned by William Meikle.
The competition was just as fierce in the 138cm section with less than a second between the top two places. Taking home the win was Staffordshire based megan Taylor aged ten. Riding her father Nigel’s seven year old bay gelding Ashwey El Britaniko Megan jumped clear in an unbeatable time of 33.56 seconds.
Not far behind the winner was twelve year old Danielle Clarke from Kent. Danielle was riding her mother Deborah’s twelve year old dark brown gelding Montana Dawn. Jumping clear in a time of 34.49 seconds this combination came home in second place.
Third place went to twelve year old Amelia Ward from the West Midlands. Riding her father Timothy’s twelve year old Just Harry II Amelia jumped a quick round coming home in 34.25 seconds but lowering one fence for four faults.
