Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at Hertfordshire County Show

The second of the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C qualifying competitions took place at the popular Hertfordshire County Show in Redbourn, Hertfordshire on Saturday 2nd June 2012. With three direct qualifying places available for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final, which will be held at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) on Sunday 7th October 2012, the class proved popular.

A total number of 67 talented combinations started in the class and from these combinations, an impressive 28 went clear in the first round to make it through to the final jump off. This made for a hotly contested jump off, in which 10 combinations went on to produce the all important double clear needed to put them in contention for Championship Final qualification. With only three direct qualifying places available for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final, the placings came down to the times.

The eventual winner of this Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C qualifier was 36-year-old Victoria Young from Bottesford, Nottinghamshire. Victoria’s double clear came on board her own 13-year-old gelding, Nethertowns Valentine. Victoria produced her clear over the eight fence jump off course in a time of 38.39 seconds to secure her the win and Championship Final qualification.

In second place overall was 27-year-old John Crippen from Chesham, Buckinghamshire. John rode Jane Robson’s nine-year-old gelding, Wantos, clear in the jump off in a time of 38.57 seconds to clinch his place in the Final.

The third and final qualification place went to 41-year-old Graham Lovegrove from Halstead, Essex. Graham achieved his Championship Final qualification on board Sarah Hancock’s seven-year-old gelding, Alfie 192 and the combination achieved their double clear in a time of 39.71 seconds.
