BRITAIN’S BEST AT BOLESWORTH

Friday 06 May 2011

The Bolesworth Showjumping Classic, with a total prize fund of £70,000, will attract Britain’s best experienced and junior riders next month.

Past Bolesworth showjumping competitors include John Whitaker, Nick Skelton, Robert Smith, Michael Whitaker, Geoff Billington, Billy Twomey and Ellen Whitaker.

This year, Bolesworth has teamed up with the Mullingar International event in Ireland to form a unique partnership aimed at taking the sport to a new audience.

Riders will enjoy special deals to compete at Bolesworth and Mullingar and a £10,000 bonus will be awarded should a horse/rider combination win the Grand Prix at both events.  In addition, the leading horse and rider combination in the 1.30m and 1.40m series of both shows will win a fabulous holiday for two in Barbados, including flights provided by www.paradiserentalsbarbados.com

In eventing, this year’s Badminton champion, Mark Todd is hoping to compete in the Bolesworth qualifier of the Express Eventing Series 2011 alongside former Badminton and Burghley winner, Oliver Townend and international rider Gary Parsonage.

The Bolesworth Showjumping Classic has also increased investment in its pony classes.  The three pony Grand Prix classes (1.48, 1.38 and 1.28) have a total prize fund of £4,500 and Bolesworth has built a new, third arena to stage its 12 pony
classes.

Show organiser, Nina Barbour said: “Junior riders are the future of our sport and that’s why we’ve decided to increase our investment in pony classes at Bolesworth.
It’s inspiring and entertaining to watch the determination of junior showjumpers just starting out on their competitive road.

“Our prize fund for the pony classes should be a real incentive for young people to come and compete at Bolesworth.  We’re looking forward to seeing them here.”

Junior riders will also get a taste of main arena action at Bolesworth.  The Tiny Tots BS Scope qualifier, an event for children under 10-years-old, will be staged in the main Castle Arena.

The Castle Arena will also see the Mini Major Relay where juniors, riding 128cm ponies, will pair up with professionals in an exciting showjumping relay.  The event will be the warm up for the Bolesworth Big Night Out starring the X Factor’s Ruth Lorenzo.
