JOHN WHITAKER INJURED IN ASSEN

John Whitaker has sustained a nasty injury, following a fall from his Olympic partner, Peppermill at CSI3* Assen, The Netherlands over the weekend.

Returning to competition from an injury himself, the stunning bay stallion put in one of his characteristic huge jumping efforts, unseating his rider who landed on his feet in the arena. However, the heavy landing broke two bones in John’s ankle, and he was taken to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.

The fractures were stabilised during surgery and we are pleased to confirm that John has now returned to the UK and is recovering well at his Huddersfield home. The injury however will keep John out of the saddle for the next six weeks, when the fractures will then be reassessed.

Everyone at British Showjumping sends John their very best wishes for a complete and speedy recovery.
