National Team Jumping Championship

The National Team Jumping took centre stage in Arena 3 today at the British Showjumping National Championships, held at the NAEC Stoneleigh in Warwickshire.

The Scots brought their team spirit with them and after some closely fought rounds it was South West Scotland Area Team who took the top spot. The team consisted of; Romy Chassels, Amanda Jane Creighton, Michael Smith and Lucy Stewart.

The team qualified at Muirmill Equestrian Centre and whilst one team member, Lucy Stewart, has ridden at the Championships once before, it was the rest of the team’s first time so they were delighted with their win. Lucy commented: “I rode on the teams here in 2015 and we were placed 7th so to come back again and win was incredible. It was a good course and the ground was good, it was worth the seven hour journey.

The national teams consist of four competitors with the fourth competitor named as captain. Teams attend as many qualifiers as they wish until they qualify. Qualifying classes take place throughout May, June and July. Team members may change throughout qualifying however the team that qualifies must remain the same for the final. All four horses must jump at a different heights, 90cm, 1.00m, 1.10m and 1.15m. The horses jumping at 90cm and a metre must be at the start of qualifying registered at Grade C and those jumping 1.10m and 1.15m can be registered at any grade.
