Paul Barker claims a second win in the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at The Royal Highland Show

The British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier headed up to Edinburgh on Friday to the Royal Highland Show. Fifty-five starting combinations came forward to take on John Bedford’s twelve fence track but it was the on-form Paul Barker who took the win.

With three qualification places available for the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final held at Horse of the Year Show in October, the class proved to be a great competition for competitors and spectators alike with eight combinations progressing on to compete against the clock in the jump off.

Northallerton based Paul was fresh off the back of winning the previous qualifier at Braham with Crispina, but on this occasion piloted Hannah and Lynn Barker’s Green Grass, a 7 year-old British bred stallion who has already gained qualifications in the Newcomers and Foxhunter Finals at Horse of the Year Show, to victory. They edged into the top spot after shaving 0.06 seconds off second placed Gillian Anderson’s time posting a time of 41.15 seconds.

Gillian rode Linda Anderson’s JJ’s Prince Chaccomo, a 9 year-old British bred whom she has brought on since 2015. They stopped the clock in 41.21 seconds. Emma Crawford took the third ticket on offer with Lynn Crawford’s Dukes of Hazard, a 7 year-old German bred gelding after crossing the fininsh line in 42.03 seconds
