British Showjumping – 5th January National Lockdown

Yesterday’s announcement by the UK Government and the First Minister of Scotland to increase measures to combat the current COVID-19 pandemic by introducing a national lockdown until mid-February will see the suspension of all British Showjumping organised activities until the measures have been lifted.

During the forthcoming period of national lockdown British Showjumping will continue to work closely with both the UK and devolved Governments, alongside the BEF, to ensure that the sport is able to resume as soon as it is allowed to do so.   In accordance to current COVID-19 protocols, the office at Meriden remains closed with all operations continuing via staff working remotely. With this in mind could enquiries please be directed to one of the four key generic mailboxes as follows:

Iain Graham, Chief Executive of British Showjumping said “We understand that this new national lockdown will be of extreme disappointment to our members, officials and show organisers who had all hoped that the new year would bring a level of normality with it.  The tiered system at the end of last year had already seen closure across some of the country, with Wales and Scotland having additional restrictions, and for us to now be put into full lockdown is naturally the last thing any of us would have wanted to see happen.  However, we have to all pull together and play our part during these extremely challenging and unprecedented times to ensure that we not only safeguard the health of our nation but also minimise the strain on the NHS and the highly valued frontline workers who are doing their best to save as many lives as possible.

“With the vaccine now being rolled out across the country it is hoped that we are on the home straight in terms of tackling this pandemic.  By pulling together now we should all be in a position, within a relatively short period of time, to be out competing once again and looking ahead to the numerous championships taking place alongside the deferred Olympic Games taking place in Tokyo later this summer.

“Once again on behalf of myself and the entire Board at British Showjumping I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the ongoing support received from our members, officials, show organisers and sponsors”.
