Worth the wait for Holly Cole and Caramel III in the Pony British Novice Championship Final
Wednesday 04 August 2021
The second class of the day in Championship Arena 1 was the Pony British Novice Championship Final and it had an incredible ninty starters contest the coveted title here at the British Showjumping National & Academy Championships 2021. As the class continued into the afternoon, the well-deserved winner was finally crowned, 14-year-old Holly Cole riding 9-year-old Caramel III, known at home as Caramel.
The pair have travelled to the Championships all the way from Tavistock with Holly’s dad, who mentioned Holly has been riding Caramel for the last 2 years and continued to say, “they [Holly and Caramel] just believed in each other.” The family rescued Caramel after her family discovered her in need of a home and, since then, Caramel has stolen the family’s heart.
An emotional Holly said: “I put my trust in her! I knew she had the speed there; she’s given me confidence.” The combination started their British Showjumping career back in September 2020, but Holly explained that this would be her last ride with Caramel, although she was quick to mention she would love to squeeze in a few smaller competitions over coming months.
Tom Bucknall and Fanta C finished in second place, with Isabella Oakes and Coldmoore Just William taking third.
