Jodie Hall McAteer 2nd in 4* Medium Tour Grand Prix at the Sunshine Tour & Faye Sutton 2nd Small Tour GP

Medium Tour Grand Prix
An eleven strong jump-off field, from an initial field of seventy-seven, came forward to contest the title of the Medium Tour Grand Prix this afternoon at Vejer de la Frontera, Spain.  This was the final day of the third week of the Sunshine Tour which runs between the 9th February and the 28th March.

For Jodie Hall McAteer,  from Borehamwood in Hertfordshire, it was a particularly strong performance with her mother Mandy Hall’s 11 year-old mare Kimosa van het Kritahof.  As the eighth rider to come forward Jodie knew she had a fast time to beat having watched David Will (GER) and Quentucky Jolly having gone just two before her and take the lead with their clear in a time of 29.91 seconds.

A strong forward ridden round saw them jump a foot-perfect clear in a time of 31.66 seconds which was enough to push them into 2nd position but just not enough to catch that of David’s.  It was however a performance that saw them retain their position despite Wilm Vermeir (BEL) and Joyride S doing their best to relegate them.  Stopping the clock just a fraction of a second slower in a time of 31.82 they had to be satisfield with their 3rd place position ahead of Niklaus Schurtenberger (SUI) and Lireu who also jumped clear but in a time of 32.47 seconds.

Will Funnell gave Great Britain a second representation in the line-up with his double clear finish in a time of 31.71 seconds on his homebred Billy McCain owned by Denise Stamp whilst Laura Klaphake (GER) took 6th on Bantou Balou Old as the only other combination to deliver a double clear.

Small Tour Grand Prix
Faye Sutton took 2nd place in the Small Tour 1.40m Grand Prix which took place afterwards.  Again, it was a large field that contested the first round with more than fifty combinations making up the start list.  To give an indication of how the course fared it was just four combinations that managed to achieve a first round with Faye being the second one to achieve it.

The three others joining Faye vying for the title were Eden Leprevost (FRA), Jacob Hellstrom (SWE) and Kara Chad (CAN).   Their order of go for the jump off remained unchanged in the final line-up with Eden having set a very fast time for others to follow with a clear in a time of 35.70 seconds aboard the 13 year-old mare Une Etoile Landaise.

Faye was the only other rider to achieve a clear when she stopped the clock in a time of 39.32 seconds on her own 10 year-old mare Zoey 12.  Jacob, having posted a faster time but incurring 4 penalties took 3rd place on the 10 year-old Chuck Bass whilst Kara had two down with the 10 year-old mare Giranette.
