GB in 4th place at FEI World Championships

Today saw the start of the Agria FEI Jumping World Championship schedule at the ECCO FEI World Championships 2022 in Herning.

It's been a great start for the British team; after today's speed class they lie in fourth behind Sweden, France and Belgium, on a score of 6.66 with not a lot separating those at the top - find full results from the competition so far here

Joseph Stockdale and Equine America Cacharel, owned by Joy Cocklin and Laura Stockdale, were first of the Brits in the speed round today; they put in a brilliant pathfinding round for a time of 91.85 seconds, which included four added seconds for a very unlucky pole in the latter stage of the course.

Harry Charles and Romeo 88, owned by Ann Thompson and Harry, were second of GB's riders to go, jumping out of their skin, but their fates proved to be starcrossed when the final fence hit the sand after a very unlucky touch. The score on the board was 88.5 seconds.

Later in the day, Britain's Ben Maher and Oakingham Stud's Faltic HB put in a superb clear round for the team with a fast time of 79.54 seconds.

Scott Brash and Hello Jefferson, owned by Lady Pauline Harris and Lady Pauline Kirkham, then were lightning quick around the Stutteri Ask Stadium, going clear with a time of 79.54 seconds and straight into second place.

About the Speed Round: all competitors contest one round against the clock. The final scores are converted into points – the rider with the fastest time and fewest accrued penalties for fences down or refusals is given zero penalties, with all athletes then given penalties dependent on the difference between their score and the rider on zero penalties.

Next on the schedule is the Team competition and individual qualifier (Thursday 11 - Friday 12 August) . Here all combinations complete an initial qualifying round, before the top-ten best teams and the top-60 athletes go forward to compete in another round that acts as a second individual qualifier and also as the final of the team competition. The team result is calculated by adding together the three best-placed athlete scores after the first and second qualifying rounds.
