British Showjumping’s Team NAF finish 2nd in Kronenberg CSIO3* FEI Nations Cup

This afternoons CSIO3* FEI FEI Nations Cup in Kronenberg, Netherlands saw the British Team finish in 2nd ahead of Spain who finished 3rd and Ireland who took the win at the Equestrian Centre de Peelbergen.

Three clears from the team of four in the first round saw Great Britain sit in joint 1st place alongside France, The Netherlands, Spain and Ireland from the starting field of thirteen nations and fifty-six combinations.

It was Ireland that were the sole nation to finish the second round with no penalties to add and a zero score to take the win. This left Spain and Great Britain, being the final two nations to come forward competing for 2nd place on 8 penalties apiece with both of their 4th riders still to come forward.

Two fences down by the final Spanish rider Sergio Alvarez Moya saw them not being able to better their score whilst for Great Britain, a fall midway on the course for Chad Fellows, GB’s final rider, also meant we finished on the 8-penalty score with cumulative time being the deciding factor that edged us just ahead into 2nd position.

British Team

Jack Whitaker, from Whatton, Nottingham with the 11 year-old dark bay mare Scenletha owned by Michael Whitaker led the team out.  A stylish clear saw them return home within the time allowed to post a superb clear giving the team a great platform to work from.  Their second round saw 4 penalties being accrued when a light touch of a top pole saw it lowered.

Joseph Stockdale, from Roade, Northampton with the 10 year-old bay mare Equine America Cacharel IV owned by Joy Cocklin picked up 4 penalties at a front pole of an early oxer in Round 1 before coming out and jumping a foot-perfect clear in the second.

William Whitaker, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire with the 11 year-old grey gelding Galtur owned by Philip Tuckwell was the third rider to come forward as well as fulfilling the role of Chef d’Equipe for the team today. Galtur, the eye-catching grey, took everything in her stride to jump an easy clear in the first round before being caught out at a vertical on a related distance in the second to be awarded 4 penalties when the top pole fell.

Chad Fellows, from Withington, Shrewsbury with the 12 year-old bay gelding Eindhoven G.H. owned by Vladimir Tuganov took the role as anchor for the team.   An extremely strong first round saw them return home clear with no time penalties to add on a zero score.  Their second round saw them eliminated when a stumble at the Longines Vertical towards the start of the course saw Chad unseated.
