Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Round at Bishop Burton College

The Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Rounds continued this weekend (Saturday 14th July 2012) with the eighth competition of the series held at Bishop Burton College in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

Over 40 combinations started the class with the hope of claiming one of the two Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) direct qualifying tickets that were on offer.

From the 42 starters, nine rider and pony combinations made it into the final jump off in which they all needed to produce a treble clear to be in with a chance of qualifying for the Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Championship Final. Four combinations went on to achieve this.

The overall winner of this second round was 15 year-old Christie Pritchard from Holyhead, Gwynedd. Christie led the jump off from the start and she won the class on board Silverlea Peppermint, owned by Susan Jones. The combination rode an immaculate round to clear the jump off course in a time of 38.63 seconds.

Second place and subsequently, the second HOYS direct qualifying place, went to 13-year-old Olivia Poole from Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Olivia rode Michelle Poole’s pony, Nelly Kid, clear over the course in a time of 40.58 seconds.

Four combinations just missed out on their HOYS qualification, but they did take home the opportunity to compete at the British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
