Qualification for the Fairfax Winter JA Classic Championship Starts at South View Equestrian Centre

South View Equestrian Centre in Winsford, Cheshire held the first Pony Premier Show of 2013 this weekend (Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th January 2013) and the venue also played host to the first two Fairfax Winter JA Classic Championship qualifiers.

Across the two days, the Fairfax Winter JA Classic Championship qualifiers attracted a total of 47 starters, with 22 competing on Saturday and 25 competing on Sunday. Competitors starting in the classes were all hoping to claim one of the three direct qualifying places on offer for the Fairfax Winter JA Classic Championship. The Championship will be held at the Charles Stanley British Masters 3* International Horse Show (4th – 7th July 2013) and this year, the winner of the Fairfax Winter JA Classic Championship will be presented with the newly developed Fairfax Jump saddle.

Fairfax Winter JA Classic Championship Qualifier – Saturday 5th January 2013
Of the 22 starting combinations, four made it through to the final jump off and the win was bagged by 15 year-old Millie Allen from Cleveland who was one of only two combinations to finish on 4 faults.

Millie was drawn third to go in the final jump off and she was on board her father’s (Peter) 10 year-old bay mare, Song Girl. The combination collected 4 faults at the fifth fence of the jump off course, but their time of 38.62 seconds ensured that they had secured the win.

Finishing in second was 16 year-old Christie Pritchard from Gwynedd on Tequila Sunrise II, a 19 year-old chestnut gelding owned by Christie’s mother, Tracy. This combination also collected 4 faults, but this combined with a time of 48.53 seconds was enough to guarantee second place and a place in the Championship.

Third place and the third qualification space was taken by 14 year-old Faye Adams from West Midlands and she rode Some Like It Hot, a 14 year-old chestnut mare owned by her mother, Julie. Faye picked up 8 faults during the jump off, but a quick time of 44.87 seconds ensured that the combination picked up a qualifying spot.

1st Millie Allen and Song Girl – 0/0/4 – 38.62 seconds - Qualified
2nd Christie Pritchard and Tequilla Sunrise – 0/0/4 – 48.53 seconds - Qualified
3rd Faye Adams and Some Like It Hot – 0/0/8 – 44.87 seconds - Qualified
4th Christie Pritchard and Kilcloghan Dg Clover – 0/0/8 – 46.06 seconds
5th Leah McCrady and Maximus Gladiator – 0/4 – 38.05 seconds

Fairfax Winter JA Classic Championship Qualifier – Sunday 6th January 2013
On Sunday, seven of the 25 starting combinations rode into the jump off and it was 13 year-old Emily Ward from Cheshire who dominated the top of the leaderboard, taking the first two places.

Emily won the qualifier on board Wizard VIII, a 10 year-old appaloosa mare owned by her father Nick. The pair rode an immaculate treble clear in a time of 36.30 seconds to book their place in the Championship and take the class win.

Emily took second place on King Mac, an 8 year-old chestnut gelding, also owned by Nick. Emily produced another superb treble clear, this time in 36.38 seconds. This result secured Emily’s second spot in the Championship.

Following on from her success the previous day, Millie Allen again rode Song Girl and on this occasion, the combination finished in third after producing a treble clear in 37.19 seconds. Due to Millie’s result from the previous day, the combination in fourth also achieved their Championship qualification and this went to Christie Pritchard and Kilcloghan Dg Clover.

2nd Emily Ward and King Mac – 0/0/0 – 36.38 seconds - Qualified
3rd Millie Allen and Song Girl – 0/0/0 – 37.19 seconds
4th Christie Pritchard and Kilcloghan Dg Clover – 0/0/0 – 37.78 seconds - Qualified
5th Alex Gill and Ammanvalley Santino – 0/0/0 – 39.88 seconds
6th Charlie Dawson and Enzo III – 0/0/4 – 35.72 seconds

The next Fairfax Winter JA Classic Championship qualifier will be held at Hand Equestrian Centre in Clevedon, Avon on the 19th and 20th January 2013. The remaining qualifier dates are as follows:

HAND EQUESTRIAN CENTRE - 19th and 20th JANUARY 2013
INGLISTON EQUESTRIAN CENTRE - 2nd and 3rd FEBRUARY 2013
ARENA UK - 2nd and 3rd MARCH 2013
ADDINGTON MANOR - 16th and 17th MARCH 2013
