James Wilson wins the CSIO3* FEI Grand Prix in Vilamoura

It was a fifty-five strong starting field that came forward this afternoon to contest the 1.50m Grand Prix in Vilamoura, Portugal.

The course proved challenging with just ten combinations navigating a first round clear to qualify for the jump-off. Two of the ten were carrying the union flag in the form of James Wilson and Nicole Pavitt putting Great Britain in a strong position going forward.

Seventh to go in the jump off was James Wilson from Frome, Somerset with the 13 year-old black mare Imagine De Muze owned by Susan Larson with a time of 38.20 to beat. James put his foot on the gas to cross the finish line clear in 37.66 seconds taking the lead from Sweden’s Linda Heed and Decurio.

Next to go was Nicole Pavitt and Madagascar Dwerse Hagen who had an unfortunate rail at the first fence to finish on four faults in a time of 43.79 seconds to move into 7th Place. The pressure was on for last to go for home rider Duarte Romao and Calvin de Beaufour  however two fences down  in a time of 43.21 seconds saw them slide out of contention and James secure his rightful place at the top of the line up.

The Brits now look ahead to the Nations Cup competition which takes place on Sunday 21st November at 13:30 hrs local time.
