GB Children finish 2nd in Lamprechtshausen Nations Cup

Great Britain’s team of riders, competing under the title sponsor banner of Team NAF, finished 2nd this afternoon in the Children’s FEI Nations Cup at Lamprechtshausen in Austria.

The riders aged between 11 – 14 years fought extremely hard for their place, just narrowly missing out on the win after a two-way third round jump off. Having finished on a zero penalty score after the second round they were forced into a third round against Hungary who were the only other nation to also sit on zero penalties.

With all four riders required to jump again, it was GB who were the first to enter the arena where both time and penalties would be accrued to decide the final outcome. Taking the strategic view to put their foot on the accelerator early with a view to forcing Hungary to do the same it came at a cost to the team  with them having to carry 4 penalties.  Hungary, then set their sights on jumping clear knowing that they would claim the title if they could finish without picking up any penalties between them.  It was a focus that paid off for them when they finished with no scores to add and therefore claim pole position on the podium with Italy sitting in 3rd place.

The team of four riders, were all making their debut appearance on a Nations Cup which made their performances all the more impressive and once again, it highlighted the tremendous talent that GB has within its youth ranks.

The team of  four contesting the competition were:

Phoebe Farman, aged 13, from Cranleigh, Surrey with Calle, a 19 year-old bay gelding owned by Tracy Priest and Penelope Priest.

Amelie Gachoud, aged 14, from Cobham, Surrey with the 10 year-old  bay gelding Evito owned by Miranda Gachoud.

Aimee Jane Jones, aged 14, from Shrewsbury, Shropshire with Zoverla, a 15 year-old chestnut mare owned by Alison Sargeant

Tabitha Kyle, aged 11, from Loughborough, Leicestershire with Grennanstown Sarco Luxhill, a 9 year-old bay gelding owned by Holly Smith

Clare Whitaker, Youth Team Manager for Great Britain commented “I was incredibly pleased with all four riders today and how they rode.  Every one of them was making their first appearance on a team and they all jumped clear which deserves acknowledgement. We were very unlucky in the jump off as having been drawn first we were therefore forced to go against the clock. They were all impressive and also worked well together as a team; they certainly look promising for the season ahead.”
