Rachel Vicary aboard Sparkling Indulgence wins the National 1.25m Restricted Rider Championship Final

The sun was out for the first class of the day in Championship Arena 1 at the British Showjumping National Championships 2018. Seeing 37 riders come forward to contest the National 1.25m Restricted Rider Championship, the glory was that of Rachel Vicary aboard Sparkling Indulgence whose stable name is Steel. Out of the 14 riders who made it through to the jump off, 18 year old Rachel from Devon also managed to secure third place with her second ride, Billy Spirit.

Rachel’s mother Amanda Vicary described the 17 year old grey gelding ‘Steel’ as being a real trier: “He gets in the ring and he just tries his heart out. There is no way he would ever be sold as he owes us nothing and he is one in a million.”

Rachel commented about her round: “I went into the jump off and was just going to play it by ear and see how he felt. To take first and third is just incredible.”

It is not only competitors who are guaranteed a fabulous day out, the British Showjumping National Championships also offers a great family day of exciting competition, hospitality and afternoon tea offerings and a retail shopping village. Entry for spectators wishing to take advantage of this fantastic show is free and parking is only £5 per car.
