Kirsty Poulton from Malmesbury, Wiltshire Wins the April NAF Shining Star Award

The NAF Shining Star Award for April 2014 has been given to young Showjumper Kirsty Poulton, aged 14 from Malmesbury, Wiltshire. Kirsty has been awarded the NAF Shining Star because of the improvement and dedication that she has shown during her time as a member of the British Showjumping Wiltshire Junior Academy.
Nicky Florence, Lead Coach for the Academy, nominated Kirsty for the NAF Shining Star Award and gave the following comments about her nominee “Kirsty has only been a member of the academy for just over twelve months and in this time she has made great progress with her lovely pony Cape Clear Crystal (Crystal). Crystal had not done much flatwork before being ridden by Kirsty, but through attending regular academy sessions and as a result of Kirsty’s diligence, there has been a huge improvement shown by the combination.”
“When Kirsty first joined the Junior Academy, she was jumping up to 1.00m and she has now progressed to 1.20m. She was well placed in the Pony Restricted Rider Championship at the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival in 2013 and has qualified again this year. Kirsty is a pleasure to train and is always keen to try new ideas to improve her performance.”
Kirsty has been riding since the age of 3 and she joined British Showjumping back in December 2012. Since joining the Junior Academy she has gained her 1* and 2* of the NAF Pony Five Star Performance Awards Programme and she is currently working towards the 3*.
Upon hearing that she had won this month’s NAF Shining Star Award, Kirsty said “The NAF Shining Star is a great award and I’m really happy to have won it. Since joining my local Junior Academy, I’ve had access to great training and it’s really paid off.
“Nicky Florence has been a fantastic coach for me and I want to thank my family and my Crystal for all their help too.
“I have already completed one of my goals for 2014 in qualifying for the Scope Festival. I also hope to qualify for the Pony National 1.15m Members Cup and I’d like to compete as part of my Junior Academy as part of a team.”
Tracey Lloyd, Marketing Manager for NAF commented, “Congratulations Kirsty, your hard work and dedication has deemed you a very worthy NAF Shining Star Winner. Keep up the good work!’
The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more. Riders are nominated by their lead coach, and then judged and awarded by NAF to one person each month.
