Jake Myers claims the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at Bicton Arena

The Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round took place on Saturday during the Pony Premier Show at Bicton Arena in Budleigh Salterton, Devon and it was Jake Myers who made the short journey and took the victory over sixty-two other starters.

Each rider set out with the hopes of securing one of the four Horse of the Year Show tickets on offer for this October’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final and after Krissy Speller’s challenging track whittled the initial field down to twenty for the second round, it came down to just twelve combinations in the final jump off.

Fifteen year-old Jake from South Brent, Devon used every short cut on offer with Joanna Myers’ 7 year-old German bred gelding Macuta II, to come home 2.22 seconds faster than his closest rival, crossing the finish line in 34.20 seconds leaving Eloise Squibb and Sarah Squibb’s Rudgeway Maestro, a 13 year-old whom Eloise has been riding since April, to settle for the runners up spot after posting a time of 36.42 seconds.

Elysia Heagren Bond took third place with Kerry Grimster’s Attyrory Golden Lady, producing a treble clear in 37.70 seconds whilst Olivia Sheppard took the final ticket on Rachel Shepard’s JAC Surprise Edition, crossing the line with a treble clear in 37.97 seconds.

The top four combinations secured their place in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show and the top eight took home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
