Harriet Nuttall scoops the International Stairway at New Forest and Hampshire Show

The New Forest and Hampshire County Show was held earlier this week at The New Forest Showground in Brockenhurst, Hampshire. Along with numerous top class national competitions, the show also played host to the eighth leg of the International Stairway Series 2019 and it was Yeovil based Harriet Nuttall who took the top spot.

Just a quarter of the initial starting field managed to negotiate their way into Course Designer Matthew Hoskins’ jump-off, with three combinations going on to finish on a clean sheet. Harriet steered her father Rupert Nuttall’s 15 year-old Irish bred gelding A Touch Imperious, the horse whom she piloted to second place in this year’s Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby, to victory with a double clear in lightning fast time of 46.49 seconds.

Joe Fernyhough took the runners up spot with Rowland Fernyhough’s Jappeloupe Van Het Neerenbosch, a 10 year-old Belgian bred mare whom Joe partnered in the Young Riders Nations Cup Team in Opglabeek in April. They crossed the line with a double clear in 50.89 seconds. Helen Tredwell produced the final double clear with Philip Tuckwell’s Galtur, they crossed the line in 53.19 seconds.

Phillip Miller took fourth place with Jacqueline Light’s Noble Warrier, they produced a time of 52.46 second but picked up four faults whilst David McPherson and his own Marvin Van De Waterhoeve took home fifth, they were carrying two time faults from the first round and picked up eight faults in the jump-off in a time of 49.73 seconds.

The International Stairway takes place across a number of county shows where winning combinations accrue League Points that count towards the Final which takes place at the British Showjumping National Championships in August at Stoneleigh Park. The series culminates with a high profile championships where three Horse of the Year Show International Wild Cards are allocated as well as it being where the sports National Champion is crowned.
