Do you own or ride a retrained racehorse?

British Showjumping and Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) are pleased to announce that the Retraining of Racehorses Recognition Awards and Regional Champion Awards will be continuing into 2012, giving owners and riders a chance to win the £2,500 monetary award that is up for grabs.

If you own or ride a retrained racehorse, you could be eligible to win one of the six cash awards that are on offer and there are also eight regional titles available, with supporting rugs and jackets to be given to the winners.

To ensure that you and your retrained horse are eligible for the awards, your horse will need to be registered with both British Showjumping and RoR to be in with a chance of collecting the £2,500 Recognition Award.

A cash award will be given to the owners of the six highest graded horses that have been awarded the highest number of Notional Prize Money during the twelve month period between 1st October 2011 and 30th September 2012 and the cash awards will be broken down as follows: 1st - £2,500, 2nd - £500, 3rd - £500, 4th - £500, 5th - £500 and 6th - £500.

There are then also eight Regional Champion Awards to be awarded to the highest place horse in each region with Club League points. The winner from each region will be identified by selecting the highest placed eligible horse with club league points in the 1m section. If none qualify, it will move to the highest placed eligible horse on the 90cm club league working downwards until a horse is identified. Each Regional Champion will be awarded a jacket and an embroidered rug.

The RoR Awards have gone from strength to strength and Di Arbuthnot, Director of Operations at RoR is pleased with the awards progression, “This series provides a focus for ex-racehorses competing in the discipline of Showjumping and I hope that it will continue to encourage more riders to recognise the talents and versatility of the thoroughbred. Thoroughbred horses have great potential for success in another sphere.”

Maria Clayton, British Showjumping Head of Communications, said “We received great feedback from those that appeared on the ranking list last year and we are absolutely thrilled that Retraining of Racehorses is to continue to be aligned with us in this way for 2012.”
