Janet Wilson’s Spring International Experience with the Veterans
I went to Aach in Germany at the beginning of April. I got there eventually, despite taking the wrong road and getting a bit lost in the Alps on the way. There was also snow on the ground! It was a lovely indoor venue and, being the only British rider, I was made very welcome. I came 2nd in the first class, a 1.15m Small Tour Speed Class with Caretina Z, then she jumped a double clear and came 4th in the afternoon.
On the second day, I was asked to join the European Team for the Nations Cup, 1.25m Big Tour. Our team was Swiss rider Astrid Ryf, Dutch rider Stefanie Muller, German rider Gert Sohnle and me with Caretina. We jumped clear in the first round going into the lead, then I jumped clear in the second round, as did Stefanie. Astrid had 3 down and sadly Gert was eliminated, so we finished 6th overall.
On the third day, my other horse, White Star, came 10th in the Accumulator and Caretina was 12th in the Challenge Cup qualifier.
My next trip abroad was to Le Mans and then on to Dinard. We took the Portsmouth ferry to Caen going and the Calais to Dover coming home as it is easier with the dog passport check on this crossing. Both horses went well and had good placings. The Challenge Cup final was held in Dinard. It was 3 rounds with 9 countries competing and 35 riders qualified. Caretina was fast and careful and we came 4th!
We were also 7th in the Annual Rankings 2011, which was won by Armin Eberle from Swizerland.
“Well done to Janet. This is all financed by herself and nothing much is made of it in GB. However, it is great having one of our Area Members doing so well on these Veteran Tours.” Joanna Gillespie – Area Representative
