Hampshire's Claire Gosden Wins Last Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Second Round

Claire Gosden from Alresford, Hampshire took the top spot in the last of this year’s Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Second Rounds, which was held at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre near Fareham in Hampshire on Sunday.

The starting field all came forward with the aim of picking up one of the last of the qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which are being held later this month (18th - 22nd November 2015) at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool.

Competition in the first round proved to be tough as less than a third of the field made it through into the jump off and the win came from the penultimate combination to go; Claire Gosden on board her own 11 year-old grey mare Billy Jean IV. Claire rode with accuracy to deliver her second foot perfect round on the mare in 51.04 seconds and their time was to prove fast enough to secure the top spot.

Sarah Evans from New Milton, Hampshire finished up in second place on her own 11 year-old bay mare Capitol Duell. They left all the fences untouched in a time of 52.35 seconds.

Third place was taken by Laura Stringfellow from Newbury, Berkshire and she rode David Mason’s 8 year-old bay gelding KEC Cocktail Hour. Laura picked up four faults towards the beginning of the jump off to finish on that score in 50.39 seconds.
