Dodson & Horrell 95cm and 1.10m National Amateur Second Rounds at Barleylands Equestrian Centre

The second rounds to qualify for the hugely popular Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool on 13 – 18 November 2018 are well underway and riders contended the latest qualifiers at Barleylands Equestrian Centre in Basildon, Essex.

Dodson & Horrell 95cm National Amateur Second Round

Cerys Withey from Bexley, Kent galloped to victory in the Dodson & Horrell 95cm National Amateur Second Round with Samantha Withey’s Apart EA.

Twenty-six contended the 9-fence first round track and only three were lost on the way to make a hot, 23-strong jump-off. 

Cerys negotiated the quickest route, taking all the shortcut options to win by 1.35 seconds on Apart EA, a Dutch-bred 13-year-old she has competed since December.

Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round

Phoebe Jefferies from Maldon, Essex jumped to victory in the Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round with Karen Jefferies’ Billy Savoy.

Eight posted first round clears over course-designer Ian Lewington’s 10-fence track to go forward to the jump-off and chase after the top spot. Nonetheless, Phoebe had all the tight turns sewn up to win on Billy Savoy, a Billy Mexico x Animo 9-year-old that she has competed for the past two years, by an impressive 5.13 seconds.
