Tributes have been paid to a showjumper who died in a horse riding accident.

Caroline MacAskill from Inverness died after suffering injuries in the incident at the weekend

Mrs MacAskill rode with Caledonian Riding Club, which described her as a "popular and well-known figure".

The 52-year-old, who was married to Ian, was head of customer services at Cairn Housing Association based in the city.

The organisation said on Thursday she was a "friend and valued colleague".

In a statement released on its Facebook page, Caledonian Riding Club said: "Caroline was a popular and well-known figure at so many riding events both in the Highland area and beyond.

"She gave terrific support to the club, most recently at the Brechin Area 22 weekend. Her good-humoured enthusiasm for her sport shone through everything she did.

"She will be so much missed and was a wonderful example to everyone else of doing what you love most with commitment and courage.

"Our condolences to Ian, and to all her family and close friends, on their irreplaceable loss."

Cairn Housing Association said: "We are very sad to confirm that our friend and valued colleague, Caroline MacAskill, passed away on October 1 from injuries sustained in a horse riding accident.

"Caroline was our head of customer services and will be known to many tenants, housing colleagues and partner organisations throughout Scotland, particularly in the Highlands where she served much of her career.

"Caroline worked at Cairn for two terms and, after a management role at the Highland Council, returned to Cairn in 2008 in her senior role.

"Caroline worked in the housing sector for over 20 years and was a member of the Charter Institute of Housing. "

It added: "She was always an enthusiastic and skilled member of the team, and her passion for life and for delivering quality services for tenants always shone through in her work.

"She cared about people and the communities she worked for.

"Caroline helped so many people through her working life and further afield over the years, and she will be very sorely missed by us all."
