Team NAF Juniors triumphant in Lamprechtshausen Nations Cups

The Team NAF Juniors got the British Nations Cup campaign off to a flying start in Lamprechtshausen, Austria when they took the top spot on the podium.

Jumping at the Sportridingclub Lamprechtshausen, the Brits showed true grit and determination to return with zero penalties in the second round and secure victory on a total of 14 penalties. This result gave them six penalties in hand over the Italian team in second on 20 with the Polish team finishing in third on 24.

Today’s trailblazer for Great Britain was Fraser Reed, aged 17, from St. Andrews, Fife with Eclips, a 9 year-old brown stallion owned by Russ Underwood. In the first round, the pair returned home with 6 penalties, but they came into the second round with the aim of delivering a clear, which they duly achieved.

Next in was 15 year-old Oliver Tuff from Totnes, Devon with Darino B, a 10 year-old bay gelding owned by Jo Bishop. After picking 18 penalties in round one, Oliver was able to put this behind him and produced an accurate and confident second round to bag another clear for his country.

Mattie Lanni, aged 14, from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire was the third team rider in and she was on board Newbridges Master Brown, a 12 year-old bay gelding owned by Stacey Webb. The combination had just one fence down in round one for 4 penalties and went on to ride a masterful second round to secure a third clear for Great Britain.

Last to go was 17 year-old Joseph Fernyhough, aged 17, from Stonehouse, Gloucestershire with Calcourt Quicktime, an 8 year-old British bred brown gelding owned by Rowland Fernyhough. A solid performance saw them complete the first round on 4 penalties and with the rest of his teammates jumping clear in round two, Joe wasn’t required to jump again as the win was already secured.

Young Riders
The Young Riders, who also ride under the Team NAF umbrella, finished 4th in their Nations Cup in the afternoon.

Charlie Jones, aged 19, from Lutterworth with Elpaola, a 9 year-old bay mare owned by Michael Jones, opened for the team. Good performances in both rounds saw him finish within the time on just 4 penalties in each. Jordan Gann, aged 18, from Leighton Buzzard was next to go with Billy Jean Birdavenue, an 11 year-old chestnut mare owned by Julia Gann.  Their first round saw them finish with 8 penalties and just 4 penalties in the second.

Taisie de Gruchy, aged 20, from St Ouen in Jersey with Winner of Picobello Z, an 11 year-old dark bay gelding owned by Lauren de Gruchy, finished on 8 penalties in each round. The anchor rider was Kellie Taylor, aged 20 from Daventry with her own 9 year-old mare Halltown Lucy.  For Kellie, her first round didn’t go as hoped with Halltown Lucy slightly unsettled and returning with a 17 penalties to become the dropscore. However, a much more confident second round saw them put in a much improved performance to return home on just the 4 penalties to secure Great Britain 4th place finish.

The Children’s Nations Cup will take place tomorrow, Sunday 20th May and Grand Prix’s will all take place on Monday 21st May. The Chef d’Equipe’s accompanying the squads are Tony Newbery and Clare Whitaker.
