MARK MCGOWAN COURSE DESIGNING DEMONSTRATION LANARKSHIRE AREA.
Friday 24 February 2012
British Showjumping Lanarkshire Area in conjunction with the British Showjumping Pony Academy held their first event on Wednesday 8th February 2012 in the form of a very successful demonstration. Over 150 people attended West Kype Farm, Strathaven to hear Mark McGowan, an International Course Designer, talk through and demonstrate building and walking a course. This involved discussing how Mark puts his course together to give riders and horses technical questions and lines for competition and then have riders demonstrate the problems and technicalities and how best to ride them.
Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) 2011 Amateur champion, British Showjumping UKCC Level 3 Coach Aileen Craig along with Trevor Nicholson jumped and compared two younger horses with two of their more experienced competition rides over Mark's tracks. Aileen and Trevor were linked to head microphones to allow them to interact with the audience, giving everyone a chance to learn from their experience whilst jumping round courses.
Advice and techniques to ride and build courses at all levels of competition from Pony Club to HOYS were discussed throughout the evening and all who attended had the opportunity to ask any questions and meet Mark, Aileen and Trevor and their horses.
This was an extremely informative and interactive evening for all who attended and with such a superb turnout from the public this event was a huge success.
Thank you to the British Showjumping Lanarkshire Area Representative, Linda Anderson and British Showjumping UKCC Level 3 Coach, Andrew Wilson and the staff at Westkype Farm for their hard work in organising such a triumphant event.
