Lanarkshire Academy Team Show 2017 - The Raiders from the North Take Two Classes !

By Lanarkshire Academy Coordinator – Gillian Beattie

Lanarkshire Academy’s fourth annual Team Show-Jumping competition saw the usual fun mix of competitors but also it’s furthest travelled by far this year with two teams competing from Aberdeen North Academy who made their journey worthwhile winning both the Novice and Intermediate team classes. A number of them also made a weekend of it by staying over the for Junior show the following day.

The Novice class saw great excitement with a jump off between academies from Aberdeen North, Central, Lanarkshire, South West Scotland and a team from local livery yard Flatmoss. A fantastic jump-off from Crista Lockhead Anderson with Tatty Desire won the class by two seconds from Lanarkshire’s Emma Noble and Kildea. We would like to thank Vicki Stewart of Hoodshill Livery, Lesmahagow for her very kind sponsorship of this class.

The Intermediate class again went to a jump off between Aberdeen North academy and local riding club Polnoon. Aberdeen excelled themselves again with a superb jump-off from Katie Woods Young making an incredible turn from fence one to two leaving the Polnoon competitor Lesley McCourt little chance with her horse, despite congratulating Katie on her fantastic jump off and saying it couldn’t be beat as she entered the ring, Lesley gave it a good shot but Katie had left her too much to do. Craig and Abbie Letham arrived in time to present the awards that they had very kindly sponsored through RCL Vehicle Services, East Kilbride.

The other teams breathed a sigh of relief as Aberdeen North had no team for the metre ! With both South West and Lanarkshire Junior teams finishing on a zero score after two rounds, the jump off was contested by Iona Campbell for South West and Kaillie Benson for Lanarkshire. Unfortunately an early pole from Kaillie meant the clear from Iona took the honours for South West. A fun individual class for the metre competitors thanks to extra prizes donated by our sponsor James and Fiona Curran of Enviraz Scotland saw some superb jumping and a great warm up for the Junior show the following day.

We would like to thank out sponsors very much for the beautiful sashes and rosettes for the teams all the way to sixth place and to all the competitors who came along and made it such a fun day with great sportsmanship, loads of cheering and lots of smiles ??.
