Monday 12 June 2017
Fife rider Mark Turnbull finish second in the grand prix at the CSI 2* show in Asten, The Netherlands with Cartouch III. The 10 year-old chestnut gelding Cartouch is owned jointly with his mother Mary.
From the 48 starters, just eight that jumped clear in the first round to qualify for the jump-off. Fellow British rider Jessica Mendoza, with the 10-year-old bay mare Constance also made up one of the eight coming forward, but they picked up 12 faults to finish in eighth place.
Mark and Cartouch produced another faultless round, returning one of the only two jump-off performances to break the 38 seconds barrier. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough to catch home rider Mathijs van Asten (NED) with Brugal VDL who stopped the clock in 37.04 seconds just a fraction of a second faster than his own time of 37.96. Hikari Yoshizawa (JPN) was third with a time of 38.12 seconds.
