Urgent - Horses Travelling back to and from France UPDATED ADVICE
Tuesday 20 May 2014
Tripartite Agreement: Revised advisory note relating to FEI registered horses travelling to FEI competition in France until 31 May 2014
As you know, the Tripartite Agreement which comes into force on 18 May means that FEI registered horses travelling to FEI competition in France now need an additional document, called a DOCOM, in addition to their passport.
We were doubtful that the systems to produce DOCOMs would be ready in time for 18 May and as such were advising that health certificates should be obtained for these horses until we were certain that DOCOMs could be obtained. This was for your protection, to ensure that you would not be stopped at the port.
We have just been advised by Defra that the systems for producing DOCOMs will definitely not be ready on time, and also that you will not now need health certificates if you are traveling to and from France before 31 May.
By 1 June however, the DOCOM systems are expected to be ready, and from that date FEI horses travelling to FEI competition in France will need a passport and a DOCOM.
DOCOMs can be obtained from BEF Approved Shippers which will be listed on the BEF website. If we are advised of any further changes to this information, we will let you know.
All horses other than FEI horses will require a health certificate and an export licence just the same as they would for transit to any European country other than France.
