Working between various showgrounds and permanent show centres in the UK

Competitive Salary: 12 days per month

British Showjumping is the Governing body for the Equestrian sport of Showjumping and we are seeking to appoint a Stipendiary Steward to attend affiliated shows and high profile events around the UK to ensure that they are run fairly, smoothly and within the rules and regulations of the sport.

Whilst acting in this capacity, the Steward will be expected to provide a primary point of contact for British Showjumping Members, dealing with enquiries as required, whilst aiming to create a safe, fair and welcoming environment at showjumping competitions.

Duties will include attending shows to observe and regulate the conduct of members, undertake enquiries in respect of breaches of rules and report incidents of misconduct. The successful applicant must be able to work with tact, diligence and authority and conduct him/herself in a professional and courteous manner.  Attention to detail and exceptional communication skills are key requirements for this position and you will need to be a competent user of MS Office packages, particularly Word and Outlook. 

The position will include some attendance at multi-day shows. 

Key Tasks:

  • To attend affiliated competitions
  • To provide a primary point of contact from British Showjumping for members at competitions to answer queries, provide information and encourage participation.
  • To be a pro-active communication channel for British Showjumping to its members and vice-versa.
  • To observe and regulate the conduct of members.
  • To ensure rules are upheld throughout the competition venue.
  • Deal with objections and discipline matters.
  • In instances of breaches of the rules to ensure it is fully investigated and appropriate disciplinary procedures are undertaken.
  • To monitor safety and to encourage good practice in all respects.
  • To submit written reports following attendance at affiliated shows.
  • As the British Showjumping Representative at the event, be prepared to assist in managing in any unexpected or unforeseen situation.
  • Liaise with judges, course designers and show organisers to ensure the smooth running of the competition.
