Phoebe Shuttleworth from Cheshire is August’s NAF Shining Star

Phoebe Shuttleworth has been awarded the NAF Shining Star Award for August through the determination, conscientiousness and commitment that she has shown. Fourteen-year-old Phoebe, from Macclesfield, Cheshire, was nominated for the award by British Showjumping Level 3 Coach Liz Jackson.

“I have coached Phoebe and her sister for the past two years having initially found an older schoolmaster for them both,” said Liz. “Phoebe has always been generous and fair in sharing her pony with her sister and not only works to improve her riding, but is always concerned and interested to learn about the management of her older pony and has empathy towards him beyond her years.”

“Phoebe has improved dramatically and has developed into a conscientious, committed rider and owner. She has learned collecting ring etiquette with politeness and observation,” added Liz.

An active team member at academies and camps, Phoebe has grown into a talented young rider, was placed in the 2017 mini major at Bolesworth and qualifying for this year’s Cats and Pipes class at the Scope Festival. “Recently, Phoebe has been unwell, but has never complained, and would groom or support her sister if feeling weak,” said Liz. “I’ve since learned Phoebe has been diagnosed with a serious illness and I’m full of admiration for a girl who has the guts and determination to overcome this impending challenge and gruelling treatment, and I sincerely hope she will be fit and well enough to fulfil her dream and compete at the Scope Festival.”

After finding out that she had won this month’s NAF Shining Star, Phoebe said “I was so surprised to hear that I had been nominated but I am thrilled to have won! I am part of the Academy and have met lots of new people through it alongside having training sessions where I’ve picked up skills such as course walking.”

Branwen Griffin from NAF added “It is clear Phoebe is a wonderful, committed and determined young lady. Her dedication to her older pony, her training, competing and her selfless attitude are such wonderful attributes to have in a talented young rider. With such a fantastic character Phoebe has all the qualities and more of a very deserving Shining Star. We are sure her sheer determination will get her to Scope, we have everything crossed. Well Done Phoebe!”

Pheobe will receive some NAF equine products to use alongside the array of NAF products that she is already using such as ElectroSalts, Silky Mane & Tail and Superflex.

The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more. Riders are nominated by their lead coach, and then judged and awarded by NAF to one person each month.
