Message from the East Yorkshire Area Representative before the AGM

Tuesday 21 August 2012

Dear Member

This will be without doubt the most important letter I will send as Area Rep. As you may be aware The AGM will be taking place at Scope on the 30th Aug.  Along with the normal financial and chairman’s reports there will be a vote on the new constitution. After the last proposals were voted down in 2010, I was invited to join the working party discussing the way forward and have had some involvement in the new proposals. I as Area rep, Judge, Course builder, Centre owner and supporter of showjumping believe this to be the best way forward given to the membership for the last 20 years. We simply cannot continue to stand by whilst our sport dissolves into the background as it has for far too long.

The new constitution allows more input from the members and stake holders than ever before. With the development of a sporting council, having representation from all parts of our sport, this group will determine the direction that the new skills based board will take the sport. At all times the ownership of the association belongs with the membership and this is the critical difference to the last proposals in 2010.

With the success of ours and many other sports at the Olympics the demand for funding will be high and governing bodies are having to work hard to show that they are trying to improve their sport and involve more and give greater access to sport. The skills based board and the sporting council are key parts of the new proposals and is something many sports have taken on board. British showjumping needs to be brought into the 21st century and this would be a good place to start. I will be supporting the proposed changed on the 30th and hope that you to will lend your support so we can move our sport forward

If you have any concerns or would like any more information please email me at michaelbainbridge@bsarea15a.co.uk. I would again urge you to vote yes to the proposed changes. You should have received you proxy from head office, if you have misplaced it a copy of your Proxy form can be obtained from nicky.dobbins@britishshowjumping.co.uk. I would ask that you vote yes on your form and send your forms either to me or to head office so your vote can be counted.

Yours sincerely

Michael Bainbridge
Area Rep 15a
