East Yorkshire Committee and Riders at the British Showjumping Annual Ball

The decision made by the British Showjumping East Yorkshire Area (15a) Committee to move the Annual Show to a new venue in East Park, Hull last year was not made without a lot of research endeavoring to bring Show jumping back into the City and the reach of the public.  So successful was it, that this year a third ring was added to accommodate the many entries, along with more trade stands and small fairground. The response of the public was overwhelming with over 20000 people in the park on Show day, many of whom remembered the old Hull Show in its heyday 30 years ago and regaled the committee with their own personal memories of hacking their ponies there and competing at the Show.

What a surprise the Committee had when Hull Show was nominated by British Show jumping as Annual Show of the Year voted for by its members. Chairman Michael Bainbridge and family along with Sharon Cawood, Anne Fearnall and Lisa Topi attended the glittering Show Jumpers Awards Ball at the Hilton Hotel in Birmingham. To be nominated in the company of Hickstead and the final winner, Scope Festival was felt by all to be an honor in itself.  But watch out for HULL SHOW NEXT YEAR in East Park on the 12th August with lots more attractions already in the pipeline.

The Long Term Achievement and Services to Showjumping Award was made amidst a standing ovation to John Lanni former owner of Area UK for his contribution and commitment to show jumping and a well respected figure in the horse world. Also making the trip to be presented with the Awards for Regional Points, Area 15A members Katie Benbow winner of the 70cm with The Juggernaught and the 80cm with Bofarnel Lottery and Dan Patrick and Hillgarth Riverdance winner of the 1metre section who made a quick turnaround returning from the Halloween Show at Arena UK the previous day with 5 wins to his credit and the Leading Rider Award.

With such a wealth of talent in our area and three excellent Equestrian Centers Port Royal EEC, Bishop Burton and Willerby Hill we are committed to encouraging the development of sport in the area.
