Bold Heath in Warrington played hosted to the Northern Region Team Event yesterday, but despite the wind and the rain the riders turned out in force. 7 teams competed in this years event; 2 from East Yorkshire and Humbershire, 2 from Cheshire, 2 from Lancashire and 1 from Clwyd.
The team draw took place in the judges box with Lee Williams, Anne Fearnell, Dianne Duggan, Adrian Marsh taking turns to pick the order of their teams and this was over seen by the judges and myself. It was then time to get jumping with the 1.00m horse and we progressed through the rounds jumping up to 1.25m. At the half way point it was still anyones prize to claim with a couple of teams on 0 and some on 4.
So going into the 2nd round the tension began to rise with plenty of banter being thrown around. This time we jumped in reverse height from 1.25m horses to 1.00m horses and we ended up with 2 teams on 0 and 3 teams on 4. However 3rd place went to the Clwyd team as they had 4 faults in the 1st round but were clear in the 2nd round and therefore we had to jump of for 1st and 2nd. First in were the team from Cheshire but despite a very quick round they had a fence down, so all the team from East Yorkshire had to do was jump clear which they did.
So well done to the East Yorkshire and Humberside team and their team manager Anne Fearnell for the win and good luck to them and the Cheshire team who have qualified for the final of the team event at Scope.
Also a huge thank you goes to Janet Baker, her family and team of helpers for holding the Team Event as part of there Mixed schedule. They were very busy all day with between 30 and 60 riders in the senior classes and also a good turn in the junior ring with was meant to finish at 1.30 but didn't finish till 3.30.
Thanks also goes to Dianne Duggan for coordinating the Regional Team Event and the Team Manager for putting together the teams for a great competition despite the weather and i hope everyone had a safe journey home and eventually warmed up.
