Suffolk Showjumping Awards

Thursday 21 November 2013

Tim Page and Chloe Winchester took the prizes for the highest ranking Suffolk showjumpers in this year’s revamped awards at the Suffolk Area British Showjumping annual meeting.

Tim had soared to 18th on the ranking list, jumped on Nations Cups teams and won the International Stairway Series which gave him his ticket to Horse of the Year Show. Chloe was ranked 56th after a spectacular year which saw her feature on the International Stairway League for the first time.

Suffolk’s junior award went to Alexandria Hands, who had notched up eleven double clears winning more than £1,200.

A new category this year, of Retraining of Racehorses, was won by Charlotte Kerton and the Leading Club Rider award went to Jenny McGough.

Suffolk had reason to be proud this year when the senior team won the national title for the second year running, with the same team members each year: Rikki Gradley, Claire Hansen, Emily Hilton and Colin Keeling. The junior riders put up an enthusiastic and promising team display with no fewer than 10 taking part – Saffron Baker; Harry Beard; Francesca Davey; Nicola Denley; Elisha Johnson; Ethan Milner-Moore; Imogen Milner-Moore; Brooke Roberts; Millie Stennett and Abbie Summers.

This year, also for the first time, there were prizes for members of the Suffolk Academy – a training scheme that has grown throughout the year under the stewardship of area representative and Suffolk Academy lead coach, Mia Korenika. She selected four riders who had shown outstanding improvement or achievement during the year. Abbie Summers took the junior award, Elisha Johnson took the young rider category and the senior award went to Libby Cartwright.  The prize for the highest achieving Club rider went to Abi Keene.

“Suffolk has proved its worth this year,” said Mia. “We have a number of seniors now jumping nationally and internationally, with many on home produced horses. The training academy is proving very popular and enabling us to bring on a huge number of juniors.”
