Suffolk Showjumper Charlie Cox Bounces Back!
Wednesday 19 March 2014
Suffolk junior showjumper Charlie Cox has bounced back from illness last year to win her place in the national British Showjumping Scope festival this year.
Last year she spent a month in a wheelchair unable to walk and wondering how she could get back in the saddle. She had to learn to walk again but once out of the chair she was back on her 12-year-old gelding Snow Patrol and fighting off the competition.
It was fierce competition in the 1 metre Progressive class at Brook Farm, Essex, where only half the combinations that got through to the jump off would qualify for Scope. But Charlie secured her 2nd place with a double clear and a lot of tricky turns. “It was very exciting, but I was also very nervous,” says Charlie, who is thrilled to have her first ticket to Scope.
It’ll also be her last on ponies. Charlie will be too old for pony classes next year. She’ll make the most of this year though with Scope already in the bag and Newcomer second rounds to look forward to.
“Qualifying for Scope is a big achievement for me and I hope to qualify on my other pony as well,”
she says.
