Rob names his squad for the first 2011 FEI Nations Cup in La Baule

With the first of the 2011 FEI Nations Cup series kicking off in La Baule, France (12th – 15th May), World Class Showjumping Performance Manager Rob Hoekstra has named his squad who will accompany him out there. Nick Skelton, Peter Charles, William Funnell, David McPherson and Robert Smith have all been named as the squad of five that will represent Great Britain in the Nations Cup.

Hampshire’s Peter Charles will partner Team Murka Ltd & Olga White’s twelve year old bay gelding Murka’s Pom d’Ami. This partnership was the mainstay of the Meydan FEI Nations Cup last year in which Britain finished in overall third position.

William Funnell from Surrey will ride the Billy Studs British bred ten year old brown stallion Billy Congo. Billy Congo made his first appearance with William at this level last year in Falsterbo; they then went on to be part of the winning team at the Hickstead Nations Cup later on in that month.

Kent based David McPherson and his own Chamberlain Z will be joining the squad travelling out to France next week. Chamberlain Z also made his debut at this level last year in Rotterdam; he then went on to compete in the World Equestrian Games (WEG) later on in the year.

After a successful winter season in Wellington (Florida), Warwickshire’s Nick Skelton has been selected riding Carlo. Carlo is a German bred ten year old grey gelding owned by Beverley Widdowson.

Another Warwickshire rider, Robert Smith will join the above. Robert will be riding the eleven year old bay stallion Talan who is jointly owned by himself, Di & Pennie Cornish. This partnership was the highest placed British Show Jumper at the 2010 World Equestrian Games.

The Nations Cup will take place on Friday 13th May at 16:35 CST with the Grand Prix commencing on Sunday 15th May at 11:45 CST. To follow the action, news and results from La Baule please visit www.labaule-cheval.com.
