Hertfordshire’s young showjumper Millie Dickinson wins Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship

An absolutely tremendous Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship took place at HOYS on Saturday when 16 year-old Millie Dickinson from Harpenden, Hertfordshire and the 10 year-old bay gelding Claddagh Prince owned by Jan Dickinson fought to secure first place by 2/100'th of a second.

It was sixteen combinations that came forward for the incredibly competitive jump off that followed having all jumped clear in the first round. With some incredibly tight clears being achieved early on in the jump off it forced many to go against the clock resulting in them picking up penalties along the way. However, it was still five that managed to deliver that much wanted second clear.

For Millie, her time just couldn't be beaten when she stopped the clock in a time of 34.73 seconds to leave Cameron Rogan and Landlord III, a 9 year-old dark bay gelding owned by Meghan Ballantyne in second place with their time of 34.75 seconds. The only two to break into the 34 second barrier, 3rd place went to Harry Charles with John & Laura Renwick and Peter Charles' 6 year-old chestnut mare Phoenix V with their clear in 36.75 seconds.

This is Dickinson’s first time at HOYS and she has made her presence known coming third in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship on Wednesday and taking the win on Saturday.

Dickinson has been eagerly awaiting her chance to shine at HOYS, an ambition she has held for many years.

“I still can’t really believe it, it’s just incredible and it’s basically a dream come true.

“To think that it’s actually happened is amazing” said Dickinson.

Dickinson had two ponies entered in the class, when she rode into the arena on her second ride, Ron Burgundy, she already knew she had won the title.
