GREAT SUCCESS FOR SHOWJUMPING BREEDER
Showjummping breeders Kim Stuart-Smith from Wootton and James Crawford from Hadleigh earned high accolades for their young horses at the second day of the Baileys Horse Feed/British Breeding/British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Futurity Evaluations held on the 24th August at Keysoe.
The BEF Futurity evaluation series aims to identify British bred young potential sport horses and ponies destined for careers in dressage, eventing, show-jumping or endurance, and may even find the Olympic Champions of the future. A first premium indicates that the young horse has the outlook and potential to compete at international level competition.
Coast was the highest placed showjumper, owned and bred by James Crawford; the colt foal earned a higher first premium with a score of 8.70. He is by Lando out of Bali G by Alme Des Nids. James bought Bali G as a yearling and the now five year old has had a short break from her show jumping career to have the foal. “She is very easy to work and I was worried about doing too much too soon with her so I put her in foal. She’ll now go back to jumping and hopefully prove her ability” said James. Lando was picked as a good match for Bali G as James felt he would “improve her reactivity” and he has been proven to have successful offspring, many of whom are competing in France. “Both Bali G and Lando have very good bloodlines and hopefully their ability will come through in Coast” said James, who produces three and four year olds before passing over the ride. “The Futurity was a very relaxed day out and the evaluators gave some very constructive criticism as well as focusing on the good points. It was a good validation of what I thought about Coast” said James.
Owner and breeder Kim Stuart-Smith earned a first premium with her top scoring three year old, Galdiamond Cintillation, in the showjumping section. The bay gelding earned a score of 8.42 and is by Cendy out of Desiree by Campbell. Kim owns both Desiree and Cendy, the former, now six, was bought as a yearling and is back in foal to Cendy. “He is the only stallion I like to use at the moment” said Kim, “He has a wonderful temperament and excellent jump. He’s a real dual purpose stallion”. Cendy has had a number of successful progeny at the BEF Futurity; including Celine who is currently the highest place show jumping yearling of 2012. Galdiamond Cintillation has also had great success, having been the top scoring two year old in the show jumping section in 2011. “Galdiamond Cintillation has terrific movement and great jump like his father” said Kim. The gelding has now gone to be backed by producer Jack Sterling with the aim to sell him.
The BEF’s Head of Equine Development, Jan Rogers, said: “The futurity continues to grow and be shaped by feedback we receive and is developing into an assessment the British horse world recognises as a valuable indicator of future performance talent”
The BEF Futurity Evaluations are held at 12 venues throughout the UK and young horses go home with a BEF Premium (grade), a stylish rosette and a detailed, informative score sheet. An attractive certificate to keep and frame follows on after the event. All results are published on the fully searchable British Breeding website. www.britishbreeding.org.
