Team Tretorn Take Two Seconds in Hagen

Great Britain’s Tretorn Junior & Young Rider Teams each secured second place in their respective Nations Cups in Germany at the Future Championships Show in Hagen.

Finishing the first half at the centre mark in terms of positioning will always put a lot of pressure on the team as they would have been well aware that it could have gone either way. But working under pressure obviously suited the team with the pathfinder Jessie Dimmock depositing a clear round for the team swiftly mirrored by both Spencer Roe and Yazmin Pinchen. Mark Turnbull finished on a total of eight faults making him the drop score leaving Great Britain with a score of zero in the second half. This score saw them rise up through the positioning with other nations dropping down beneath them as they climbed their way up to second place staying alongside the Netherlands who also finished on a zero score.

It was the home German team however who took first place just one jump head of both Great Britain and the Netherlands finishing on a total of four faults.

Corinne Bracken, Chef d’Equipe commented “We have seen a good competition here today with some very competent and talented performances. In particular with Yazmin Pinchen who produced one of the only four double clear rounds of the competition – when you consider that forty eight rounds were jumped today it was a superb performance by her. I’m happy with the way things have gone, the horses went well, the rider’s rode well and I couldn’t have asked them to have pulled together as a team any better than they have. They worked extremely hard to rise from fourth place at the halfway mark to second place with the team pulling three clear rounds out of the hat allowing us to finish on zero penalties in round two and for a young team I just couldn’t have asked for more.”

With  Jason Smith, Lucy Guild and George Whitaker having produced a clear and returning back home with zero penalties, it was Joe Davison who was the drop score having incurred eight faults. This extremely solid performance across the team positioned Great Britain in joint first at the halfway mark with the Netherlands who had mirrored our first round penalties with three clears and an eight fault round. 

Going into the second round, Jason Smith was the first to jump for Great Britain this time returning home on eight faults followed by both Lucy Guild and Joe Davison who jumped superb clear rounds.  It was George Whitaker this time who became the drop score having incurred eight faults leaving the team with a total finish penalty of eight faults for the second round.   However the top position which had been within their grasp for most of the competition was snatched by the Netherlands who finished with just one fence in hand on a total of four faults relegating Great Britain to second place.

Joint third place went to the USA and home team Germany who finished four fences behind us on a finish score of twenty four faults apiece. With penalties going up by a fence per place thereafter it really highlighted the great performance put in by the Young Rider with such a close gap between the top two places and the large discrepancy in performance after them.

Chef d’Equipe Corinne Bracken commented “It was a tough competition today and the course asked a lot from both the horse and rider - this was evident when you look at the leap in penalties after the first two placings with sixteen faults between ourselves and third place. We produced four clear rounds and a double clear from Lucy which was a particularly outstanding performance as the only other double clear of the competition was within the winning team. It’s still relatively early in the season and as much as we naturally would like to have won today having been so close throughout the competition I’m still pleased with the way the team have gone and our result and performances are all boding well for our European Championships next month”
