Arena UK played host to the fourth John Whitaker International Winter JA Classic at the weekend. With three qualifying places up for grabs each day (Saturday and Sunday) the show was heavily contested.

The first John Whitaker International Winter JA Classic class saw eight combinations jump clear proceeding into the first jump off. With five more jumping a second clear, it was Alex Chitty from Gravesend, Kent who took the win riding his mother’s (Amy) 10 year old grey mare, Amilie JR Z. The pair jumped a foot perfect round in a time of 38.37 seconds, 4 seconds quicker than 2nd place Alex Gill. Alex partnering Lynn Barker’s 8 year old British bred dark bay gelding, Ammanvalley Santino jumped the only other treble clear of the class in a time of 42.74 seconds.

The next day gave riders a second chance to qualify, and saw twenty nine riders contest the class. Eight combinations jumped a first round clear with five jumping a second. It was Christie Pritchard from Holyhead, Gwynedd that jumped the only treble clear to take the win in a time of 31.31 seconds. Christie rode Amanda Farr’s 15 year old grey gelding Birchill Dessy. Current John Whitaker International Winter JA Classic title holders Beth Vernon & Allyson Blagg’s Cinderella’s Girl took second place. The pair jumped a fantastic round in a super quick time of 31.26 seconds but an unfortunate role of a pole left them with 4faults.
