Academy News

Academy Training is going from strength to strength within the region and the Lincs/Notts Academy have recently had a meeting to discuss a re-launch so that we can provide juniors with some more regular training and other activities.  Further details will be released shortly.

The Leicestershire and Rutland Academy has been very busy over the last few months with training sessions, bare back riding, tobogganing, bowling, stable management, quizzes, team building and much more!  This academy is also working on obtaining Clubmark status which will hopefully help with gaining some additional funding.

The latest Leicestershire and Rutland Academy session was on 13 February with Di Lampard.  There was a fantastic turnout and Di focused on straightness over trotting poles and counting strides between fences, whilst trying not to run over the academy coach, Michael Jones!  The academy also had sessions from Baileys Horse Feeds looking at the size of the horse’s stomach and what the academy riders feed their horses/ponies.  A session on bitting was also held with a wide range of bits supplied by Bit World.

Northamptonshire has also been holding regular sessions with lead coach Mia Korenika.  Training on 11 February at Moulton College was unfortunately cancelled due to the snow but has been re-arranged for Saturday 25 February.

SnowDome visit
Thank you to Leicestershire Academy member Billie Griffiths who has written the report below:

On Friday 27 January, the Leicestershire and Rutland Academy spent the evening at the Tamworth SnowDome.

We arrived one by one and checked in. After a reunion we had a look around the ski shop and wandered off to start the tobogganing. There were a lot of people: Billie, Fahrran, Amy, Gemma, Rachael, Tilly, Sam, Kieran, Claudia, Josie, Annabel and everyone's parents.

We had a safety check on how to use the toboggans. After queuing we went up a huge escalator all the way to the top of the hill. As we reached to top of the hill we looked down to see our mums waving.

The parents enjoyed the bar facilities as we enjoyed the slope. Tilly's mum enjoyed both! We sat waiting at the top of the hill on our toboggans when we were given the signal to go. The slope looked scary at first because it was so big, but when you got going it was a lot of fun.

Quite a few of us collided and spun around but carried on and tried again. Covered in snow we went up the escalator again. This time more excited than nervous. Going down the slope I pulled up my brakes and snow flew out from underneath and covered Amy! After getting seven turns on the slope we warmed up in the restaurant and ate quite a lot of food!

Please remember that you do not have to be resident in the area in which your academy is based but if you do want to compete in the inter-academy team competitions you will need to choose which area you would like to compete for!
