Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Final at The Cabin Equestrian Centre

The eleventh Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Final took place at The Cabin Equestrian Centre in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire on Sunday 15th July 2012. Following a competitive year of qualifying, the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Final attracted entries from over 20 eligible horse and rider combinations, all hoping to claim their Championship Final qualification.
Riders came from all over the country with the aim of qualifying for the Tri-Zone Senior Discovery Championship Final, which will be held at the Plevin British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
From the 21 starters, 12 combinations made it through to the final jump off after first having to produce two clear rounds during the earlier phases of the competition.
From these 12 combinations, eight were able to produce the all important treble clear required for Championship Final qualification and the overall winner of the Regional Final was 39-year-old Kathleen Mcarthur from Carluke, Aberdeenshire. Kathleen rode Patricia Macarthur’s six-year-old liver chestnut gelding, Goldfinga III to victory. Kathleen brought the horse home clear in a time of 33.74 seconds to secure her place in the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Championship Final.
In second place was 24-year-old David Harland from Hinderwell, Saltburn by the Sea. David achieved second place on board Gillian Paterson’s six-year-old bay gelding, Van Het Kroonhof and the combination completed the seven fence jump off course in a time of 35.95 seconds to clinch the second qualifying spot for the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Championship Final.
In third place was 28-year-old Alex Barr from Lanark, Lanarkshire. Alex earned his qualification on board Heather Donaldson’s eight-year-old grey gelding, Ringfort Corleone. The combination cleared the jump off in a time of 36.04 seconds to secure third place.
A further five riders also achieved an impressive treble clear in times of under 45.00 seconds, earning themselves a place in the Championship Final.

The Plevin British Showjumping Scope Festival 2012 will take place from the 26th August – 1st September 2012 at Staffordshire County Showground.
