THREE BRITISH INTERNATIONAL RIDERS
Wednesday 26 September 2012
Following the 13 British International riders already confirmed, Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) is delighted to announce that Tim Davies, Ellen Whitaker and Jessie Drea will also be competing in the international classes at the “World’s Most Famous Horse Show”, held at Birmingham’s NEC from 3rd – 7th October 2012.
Ellen and Jessie both qualified through wildcard classes run over three days at Arena UK’s Major Festival where riders competed in three legs; a jump-off class, speed class and grand prix-style class. Each horse and rider combination was awarded points for their result in each section, highlighting the importance of consistency in performance for each combination.
Ellen rode Arena UK Lando. She finished the first jump-off leg in 10th place, soon picking up pace to finish third in the speed leg and second in the final grand prix-style leg. Jessie got off to a fantastic start with Touchable placing third in the first jump-off leg, fifth in the speed leg and eighth in the final grand prix-style leg.
Tim qualified on the British Show Jumping HOYS Wildcard, retaining his win from last year in the league, which tabulates points gained from International Trials and International Stairways.
All three will now contest the international classes against 13 fellow British and 16 Foreign International riders. Four of the classes carry Rolex World Ranking points and the international schedule boasts a total prize fund of £150,500.
Ellen and Tim have also qualified horses for some of the national classes at Horse of the Year Show, so it will be a busy week all-round. Ellen is no stranger to the show; in 2010 she was Leading Lady Rider and was awarded the Spurs & Fred Harthill Trophy for the highest placed British rider, having taken first place in the Vinopolis Speed Horse of the Year on Kanselier and equal first in the Tagg Puissance on Ladina B. In 2009, she won the prestigious Leading Show Jumper of the Year Grand Prix on Equimax Ocolado. Jessie has competed at the show a number of times and in 2007 took the Pony Newcomers Championship with Fermali’s Silke. As a young rider, Tim was second in the Young Rider Championship riding Ceramic. More recently, he was fourth in the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship 2009 riding Valentijn O.
The 2012 Horse of the Year Show will host the finals of the most highly regarded national showing and show jumping championships, alongside international show jumping and an exciting line-up of equestrian entertainment, including the exclusive display The Final Charge by Atkinson Action Horses, the Equimax Pony Club Mounted Games for the Prince Philip Cup, Osborne Refrigerators Scurry Racing, a Classic Dressage Master Class with Olympian Richard Davison and a Show Jumping lecture demonstration with Tim Stockdale. The popular Think Like a Pony Interactive Feature Area will make a welcome return, and of course the famous HOYS Retail Village featuring hundreds of trade stands. An extra special finale on Sunday night will include iconic actor Brian Blessed reading the famous Ode to the Horse, “Britain’s Got Talent” sensations Only Boys Aloud performing some spine-tingling pieces and appearances from some special champions including our 2012 Olympic medallists and Grand National winner Neptune Collonges.
