Team GBR Squad for the Lummen FEI Furusiyya 5* Nations Cup Announced

Rob Hoekstra, the World Class Showjumping Performance Manager has announced his squad of five that will be travelling to Lummen, Belgium for the first of the CSIO 5* Furisiyya Nations Cup competitions. 

This is the first time that Lummen has been included within the Top Level FEI 5* Nations Cup series which previously always commenced at La Baule in France.  The Lummen 5* International Show commences on the 30th April and finishes on the 5th May with many of the world’s leading riders expected to make their presence felt.

The Nations Cup takes place on Friday,  2nd May at 16:00hrs local time with the Grand Prix commencing at 14:00hrs on Sunday, 4th May.

Great Britain will be chasing Furusiyya Nations Cup points at four of the eight legs of the series at Rome (22-25th May), Falsterbo (10-13th July), Hickstead (31st July - 3rd August) and Dublin (6-10th August).

The squad selected are as follows:

William Funnell from Dorking, Surrey with his homebred 13 year-old brown stallion Billy Congo, owned by the Billy Stud and with whom he won Team Gold at the 2013 European Championships, Herning. 

Spencer Roe, a World Class Development Programme rider, from Lincoln with his mothers (Sally) 11 year-old bay gelding Wonder Why with whom he finished Team 4th in the Young Rider European Championships last summer.

Robert Whitaker from Sidcup, Kent with his parents (John & Clare) 11 year-old brown stallion Catwalk IV with whom he jumped a double clear at their inaugural 5* Nations Cup last summer in Gijon.

William Whitaker, another rider within the World Class Development Programme, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire with Elisabeth Fredland’s 11 year-old bay gelding Fandango with whom he also made his debut at 5* Nations Cup level in Gijon last summer.

Guy Williams from Canterbury, Kent with Caroline Phillips’ 10 year-old bay gelding Zaire with whom he won the Land Rover Grand Prix in Bordeaux earlier in the year.

 The British Showjumping Teams are supported by Exchequer and National Lottery funding via UK Sport.

The World Class Development Programme underpins World Class Performance and, together with the Equine Pathway, they comprise the Equestrian World Class Programme, incorporating the three Olympic sports of dressage, eventing, showjumping and the Paralympic sport of para-equestrian dressage.  The Programme has been funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, through Exchequer and National Lottery funds, via UK Sport since 1998.
