Team GBR Squad for the Hickstead FEI Furusiyya 5* Nations Cup Announced

Rob Hoekstra, the World Class Showjumping Performance Manager has announced his squad of five that contesting the seventh leg of the CSIO 5*  Furusiyya Nations Cup competitions at Hickstead on the 1st August.

This will be the third of four competitions within the series in which Great Britain will be competing for crucial league points with the aim of assuring themselves a place in the final in addition to inclusion in next year’s series.

The 5* International Show commences on Wednesday 30th July 2014 and finishes on Sunday 3rd August 2014.  The Nations Cup takes place on Friday 1st August with the Grand Prix (The King George V Cup) taking place on Sunday 3rd August.

Jessie Drea, from Haywards Heath, West Sussex with Touchable, a 13 year-old chestnut mare owned by Lynne Humphries. Jessie and Touchable were key members of the young British Team that won the CSIO 3* Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Odense, Denmark. The combination produced a tremendous result in Rotterdam earlier on this month whilst making their debut appearance on a 5* Nations Cup Team jumping clear in the first round and just one fence down in the second.

Ben Maher MBE, World No.2 and London 2012 Team Gold medallist from Bishops Stortford will be riding Wings Sublieme, an 11 year-old bay mare owned by Stone Ridge Farms LLC.

Robert Whitaker, from Sidcup, Kent with his parents (John & Clare) 11 year-old brown stallion Catwalk IV with whom he jumped a double clear at their inaugural 5* Nations Cup last summer in Gijon. Robert and Catwalk IV recently won the Alltech Grand Prix for the Kingdom of Bahrain Trophy at the CSI Royal Windsor Horse Show. The combination was also part of the British team that won at St. Gallen, Switzerland.

William Whitaker from North Yorkshire with his partner’s (Elisabeth Fredlund) 11 year-old bay gelding Fandango – a horse that William has produced since a Novice.  The combination were a member of the 5* team that competed in Lummen in May this year.

Guy Williams from Canterbury Kent with Zaire, a 10 year-old bay gelding owned by Caroline Phillips. A member of the Rotterdam team in June they also appeared on the team at St Gallen where they jumped clear in the first round.
