SEIB Winter Novice Championship Qualifier at SouthView Competition and Training Centre

SouthView Competition and Training Centre in Winsford, Cheshire hosted the eighth qualifier of the SEIB Winter Novice Championship 2015 on Saturday 21st February as part of their Development Classic Show. The class proved popular once again as a total of eighty-six combinations came forward to contest the class.

Competitors battled it out for the two qualifying places available for the Championship to be held at the Longines Royal International Horse Show during 28th July – 2nd August 2015 and the class was closely fought.

Half of the starting field (forty-three) produced the initial clear needed for a place in the jump off and fifteen subsequently delivered a double clear to put them in contention for a coveted qualification spot. With less than a second separating the top three combinations, the clock was once again crucial in deciding not only the final line-up, but also the allocation of the qualification places.

Angela Thompson, aged 36, from Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire partnering Babette, a 9 year-old chestnut mare owned by Justine Bush produced the fastest double clear of the class to take the victory. Drawn eleventh to go in the jump off and seeing four of the previous combinations produce a double clear before them, Angela knew that a quick, foot perfect round would put her in contention of both a qualifying spot and the victory and their accuracy and pace was such that their double clear in 34.72 seconds could not be beaten.

Jessica Crosby, (20), from Bradford, West Yorkshire took second place with TGF Colour Confetti a 7 year-old skewbald mare owned by Trevor Farrington. This combination produced their double clear just 3/100th of a second behind the winners after stopping the clock in 34.75 seconds.
